Care and Counseling is a Pastoral Counseling center which seeks to incorporate spirituality in Psychodynamic Clinical Work and Pastoral Counseling.  Our mission is as follows:  Care and Counseling, working with diverse faiths and therapeutic traditions, fosters emotional healing and growth in a spiritually informed context by providing affordable psychotherapy, professional education, and community outreach.

Unless noted, all of the experiences below are offered at our main office located at 12141 Ladue Road, St. Louis, MO.  This is near the intersection of Ladue Road and Interstate 270.

Case Conferences

On most 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, we have a continuing education event with the focus on a variety of topics relevant to therapeutic work and psychotherapy.  The listing of these is listed under Training/Case Conferences.  The cost is $10.00 to attend and $3.00 for a Certificate of Attendance (CEU).  You may register ahead of time by calling our main office at 314-878-4340 or 1-800-677-3609.

Psychotherapy Development and Enrichment Program (PEP)

This program consists of eight mini courses throughout the school year.  The classes cover a variety of topics including Family and Faith of origin, Psychodynamic Theory: Drive, Ego, Self and Object Relations, Attachment Theory, Psychodynamic Psychopathology, Therapist and Client Relationship, Therapeutic Process and Techniques, Object Relations Couple and Family Therapy, and Healing the Psyche:  Psychological and Spiritual Integration.  See our Web site for a complete listing.  Each class is on Wednesdays from 8:00a.m. to 10:15 a.m.  The total cost for the entire year is $1,280.00 plus the cost of supplies.  The courses may also be taken individually.  For example you may want to take only one or two areas for continuing education.  The cost is $40.00 per each two-hour course.  These courses may be taken for CEU credits.  To register, please call our main office at 314-336-1099 or 1-800-677-3609 and ask for the Director of Training.

Individual and Group Supervision

Care and Counseling offers Individual and Group Supervision based upon what you are looking for.  Individual Supervision is $45.00 per hour and Group Supervision is 15 weeks in the fall and15 weeks in the Spring - each costs $375.00.  Please call our main office if you have existing client work and are in need of supervision.  These supervision hours are often utilized to assist in hours toward licensure and or to assist in the formation of the professional expertise of psychotherapy.

Clinical Residency

Certificate of Supervised Experience.  A residency of clinical supervised experience is available for two or three residents beginning each year in September.  Residency requires the following:  A graduate Behavioral Science Degree, and/or Theological Degree, which integrates Theology and Psychology, or nearing the completion of the degree.  This is not a beginning point, but rather a way to build on an existing foundation of theory and practice.  This is a post-graduate program.  Deadline is August 1 of each year.

Residency includes

Participation in Psychotherapy Enrichment Program (PEP) coursework, Weekly Case Conferences, Administrative time, Staff Groups on Wednesdays, Individual and Group Supervision.  Residents begin seeing clients in the fall depending on level of experience.  We cannot guarantee a number of client hours due to the fact that many seek to use their insurance for mental health costs and those who are not licensed are unable to receive third party payments.  Usually most residents start out with one or two clients a week and work up to around 10 hours a week if a resident for one year, and up to 15 hours a week if a resident for a second year.  The time that a person usually takes to obtain hours toward licensure is often two-three years.  Most common is two years.  Residents receive a graduated stipend for clinical hours.  You will not make enough to support yourself or a family while in this residency.  You will need to supplement your stipend with other income.  All or most of the above hours may count toward licensure requirements.  To be a part of the program, you must be in your own personal therapy.  If you are interested, please contact the Director of Training to receive an application, ask questions or to set up an interview for the program.  We do not usually host field placements or internships before graduation due to our inability to guarantee the hours often required for the internship client hours.

Employment

Care and Counseling provides licensed clinicians with referrals, office space, and administrative support based upon a percentage of fees collected.  Unlicensed clinicians can see clients under supervision through our Clinical Training Program.

We are currently looking for clinicians who are interested in providing services in St. Louis City and County, Washington in Franklin County, Jefferson County and St. Charles County in Missouri and in Belleville and Alton in Illinois.

If you have questions about employment options, please call John Perry, Clinical Director at 314-336-1094.
